Compound Words Activity – Reading ELA

Use this lesson on the Smartboard to teach students all about compound words. A compound word is when two smaller words are joined together to make one larger word.

Directions: Use the Smartboard to navigate through the lesson. Click the Starter Activity link to open the lesson in a new window. Teach students that a compound word is two smaller words joined together. Then click  “Main Session part 1”  where students will drag and drop items into the compound word creator to make new compound words. In “Part 2” students will read sentences and click on the compound wordsin each. When finished click forward at the bottom of the screen to advance to the next part of the lesson where students will create compound words from a list. Click forward again to fix compound words that have been incorrectly put together. Play
